What are facts about Ariel Toucans?
Toucans eat fruits and berries. They also eat small animals, like small birds, lizards, and sometimes frogs. A toucan is a large bird. It is colorful and has a large, long beak. It has a short, thick neck, small wings and a rounded tail. Its beak is sharp and has saw-like edges. Its predators are hawks, and other brig birds, humans, big cats, and worst of all.....JAGUARS! They are diurnal, (meaning they are awake in the day and sleep in night, like us). Toucans are endangered because of deforestatio, (when trees ae cut down), and they are captured to be sold in pet markets. They defend themselves by using their sharp beak. They also make a calling noise when a predator is near to call their flock. Toucans are essential/important to rainforests because, they help to disperse seeds.
Hope this helped!
P.S.This was written by a 5th grader. :)
jaguars will eat anything they can catch which makes them a huge predator. I believe they might be able to catch a toucan considering they climb trees and are fast and sneaky.

A typical toucan's diet consists mainly of fruit. However, toucans are known to eat small snakes and lizards, insects, and the eggs and nestlings of other small birds as part of their diet.

Can you use a toucan as a pet?
No a toucan is not a parrot. Toucans, or ramphastids are a family of birds in the order piciformes. Woodpeckers, and barbets are also in the order piciformes. Parrot actually refers to an entire order of birds, the psitticiformes, and since toucans are piciformes rather than psitticiformes they are not a parrot.
In the wild they eat hundreds of different varieties of fruit, such as ficus fruits. In captivity they are commonly fed fruits such as blueberries, papaya, melon, grapes, bananas and more. Citrus fruit should not be given to a toucan, because their tendency to develop something called hemochromatosis (also known as iron storage disease) and citrus (as well as anything high in iron) increases the likelihood of them suffering and dying from that illness.
Toucans eat lots of fruit from the amazon rain forest like ficus (figs), blueberries, papaya, melon, grapes, and bananas.
Toucans are like the Cassowary. They both eat fruit from trees in the rainforest and then when they fly around, the seeds are spread all over the plantation, allowing more trees to grow so they don't die out or group together and suffocate each other. If we didn't have the Toucan or Cassowary it is quite possible that we wouldn't have rain forests altogether. That would affect the atmosphere, greenhouse gasses and us hugely. Hope I answered your question!
How many different species of a toucan are there?
Many! there are more than 40 types of the truly pretty bird!
