The only $50 bills dated 1918 were National Currency Notes with blue seals. If that's what you have you will need to have it authenticated by a currency expert because these bills are quite rare. As of 07/2012 a genuine 1918 NC note retails for anywhere from $4,000 in worn condition to over $10,000 if uncirculated.

After US currency was reduced to its present smaller size in 1928, 5 different colors were used to denote various types of money. The blue seal indicates that these bills were backed by silver, and were fully redeemable in coin. Since 1968 this has no longer been true, and most silver certificates, particularly the later dollar ones (most of the 1935 and all of the 1957 series) are worth little above face value unless in near-perfect condition.

Incidentally, the other colors used were the familiar green for Federal Reserve notes, brown for the first (1928) Federal Reserve and National Currency bills, as well as some World War II notes, yellow for Gold Certificates and some World War II bills, and red for National notes. Each are an interesting study in their own right.

Mint marks only appear on coins. US paper money is printed by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, while coins are made by the US Mint. They're completely separate operations.

When silver certificates were issued the BEP had only one facility, in Washington DC. Any small-size bill you may have was printed at that location.

If the letter G is to the left of Washington's portrait, inside a black ring, then that's the Federal Reserve Seal, and the letter corresponds to a specific Fed bank where the bill was printed. G indicates Chicago.

Yes, bill production goes on regularly, but in the US the date shown on a bill is its "series" date, not the year it was printed.

Until 1974 a new series date was used only when there was a design change or other major update, so the same series date would be used for many years. The 1934 series of $100 bills went through five different printing subseries between that year and 1950 when the design was modified.

There's no 1976-A series of $2 bills. All were printed in the first series which doesn't have a letter next to the date. You may be referring to the Federal Reserve District letter.

If it's series 1976 or later, then it's still worth face value. Older ones are worth a bit more, but the value really depends on condition.

It's not worth anything, because there's no such thing as a real million dollar bill. It's a novelty. The largest denomination ever printed was $100,000.

The US $1 bill has been through many redesigns over the years. George Washington's picture has appeared on most of them since the turn of the 20th century.

Up till 1923 US bills were much larger than they are today. The first small-size $1 bills were introduced in 1928. They had a similar front image and simply the word ONE on the back. They were issued as silver certificates so they had blue seals and serial numbers.

The reverse was redesigned in 1935 to look almost like it does today, with the word ONE in between the two sides of the Great Seal of the United States. That design lasted until the 1957 series, which was actually printed into the mid-1960s. The only change was the addition of the motto In God We Trust, starting with bills printed in 1957.

In the early 1960s the price of silver had to be deregulated due to skyrocketing demand. That meant the Treasury could no longer issue silver certificates, so $1 bills were printed as Federal Reserve Notes. The front of the bill was redesigned to be slightly simpler but was still very similar to the arrangement used on silver certificates. The most noticeable difference was of course that FRN's use green seals rather than blue.

Since 1963 there have been only minor "housekeeping"-type changes to the $1 bill. There are no plans to redesign it to add color or a different portrait, partly because of the expense of changing such a low-denomination bill, and partly due to political wrangling over whether the bill should be discontinued in favor of $1 coins.

Please don't assume that every old bill is a silver certificate. All 1950 US $5 bills were issued as green-seal Federal Reserve Notes, and carry that designation in the banner across the top of the bill's face.

yeah its worth more generally but it depends if it has a mint mark. they go from A-F, F being the least valuable but on ebay they tend to go for around 30 bucks in decent condition. if you have one you can bring it to your local collection shop and they can take a look. they are always worth more if a 3rd party Grades the bill, but unless you know its in quite amazing condition it might not be worth enough to pay for it to be graded. hope this helps :)

Until 1990 all US banknotes were printed in Washington. That year, a second facility was opened in Fort Worth. Each Federal Reserve district requests a print run of denominations needed in its jurisdiction, and the Bureau of Engraving and Printing prints bills with that district's letter (and before 1990, its city name).

Mismatched serial numbers are a moderately rare error. Depending on the bill's condition it could retail for $100 to $300.

Serial numbers are printed by two separate counter wheels, a bit like the odometer used on older cars. Normally the counters are linked together but sometimes one will stick, causing them to print different numbers.
