What is remedy to prevent slag inclusions?
Remedies to prevent slag inclusions -
Avoid atmospheric contamination using proper welding procedure e.g. adequate Shielding Gas
Proper removal of slag from weld bead surface
using wire brush
Redesigning the weld joint to permit sufficient space for manipulation of the puddle of molten weld material
Some electrodes (welding rods) can be used AC or DC. Some are strictly DC. You may find that most electrodes run smoother on DC. Most industries purchase machines with DC capability.
What is unique about the tig welding process?
I wouldn't call TIG unique as it was developed to replace Oxy-Acetylene welding. Basically you use a heat source to melt the base metal and either fuse or add filler to complete the weld. TIG, originally called Heliarc (Helium - electric arc), was developed sometime around WWII to weld Aluminum. Helium was used to protect the molten puddle. Since then Argon has become the primary gas sometimes mixed with Helium. Almost any type of metal can be welded with the TIG process. Except for fuse welding it is a two handed operation whereas MIG and stick welding can be performed single handed. One thing that is unique is that with the addition of a foot pedal you can control the Amperage as you weld.
many planes were produced here at Wright with gas welded Aluminum
most was done with Hydrogen Oxygen torch taking care to have a reducing flame
Distortion is created because metal expands when heated and contracts when cooled. The weld puddle is hot so most of the distortion takes place when the weld cools. Adjusting the fit-up, usually by leaving a gap between pieces to be welded, can help. Fixturing the piece so that it cannot expand or contract is another way. Pre heat and post heat can prevent some distortion. When installing lifting pads we would weld three or four spots on the bottom of the pad. This held it off the surface. The cooling weld deposit pressed the spots into the metal and allowed the joint to contract.
What is the cheapest stick welder?
Most mfgrs. produce an A C machine which just reduces the amperage. They are cheaper than a D C machine where the electricity has to be changed from alternating current to direct current.
When would you use an oxy-acetylene weld?
Some weldors only use Oxy/Acet to weld with. I've used it on steel, aluminum, brasses and bronze as well as silver soldering and brazing. If I had only one process available to use Oxy/Acet would be my choice as you can cut, braze, heat and weld with it. It is the process of choice for artists and craftspeople.
What do you do if a oxy-acetylene gas is leaking from welding bottles?
It depends on where the gas is leaking. If it is from the regulator connection sometimes just readjusting and tightening the grooved nut will stop the leak. Turn off the valve and remove the regulator. Check for dirt particles and damage to the seat and regulator bulb (the fat part that fits against the seat), open and close the valve quickly to blow out any loose particles, reattach the regulator. Check to see if the gas is still escaping. If it is, the regulator bulb or the valve seat may be damaged. All cylinders have a fuseable plug and if it is leaking from there evacuate the area immediately and call emergency personnel. If it is from the valve area you may be able to stop the leak by tightening the packing nut at the base of the valve stem. With the regulator attached open the cylinder valve slightly and tighten the packing nut. Check to see if this stops the leak. If immediate attempts fail, evacuate the area.
When butt welding (edge to edge) two plates, one side is welded and the other side is gouged (usually air carbon arc gouging process) to clean metal on the first side. Then the second side is welded. This assures 100% weld penetration. Usually performed on plates over 1/4" thick.
What does ARC mean in ARC welding?
In arc welding the electrode (welding rod) is held just a little space away from the workpiece and electric current jumps from the electrode to the work piece carrying material from the rod with it. This material is deposited at the weld site mixed with molten metal from the workpiece. The jumping current is referred to as the arc. You can see it if you are wearing welding glasses with the proper dark lens. Looking at the arc without eye protection will often result in a splitting headache later and, if done recklessly and too long, permanent eye damage can result---in other words, blindness.
A closure weld is a technique of sealing an object in which powerful electrical current or heat is used to melt the surfaces together. This is used extensively in industrial applications.
What is structural fixtures and fabrication?
these are terms used to describe the buildings and fixed contents within it .
the fabrication is the building itself and
the fixtures are things such as bathroom fitments...toilets, washbasins, baths etc
Is it safe to use an acetylene tank that has not been used in about 10 years?
If there is pressure in the tank it may be possible to use it. If not I wouldn't recommend it. In the tank there are blocks of material and Acetone. These absorb the Acetylene allowing it to be charged to 300 PSI. If the Acetone (it is in liquid form) has leaked out the Acetylene could explode if the cylinder is recharged. Acetylene pressure is RED LINED at 35PSI.
Welding has ancient origins, with evidence of its practice dating back to around 3000 BC in Mesopotamia, where blacksmiths used techniques like forge welding to join metals. However, the modern process of welding as we know it began to take shape in the 19th century, particularly with the invention of electric arc welding in the 1880s. The development of various welding techniques continued throughout the 20th century, significantly advancing industrial manufacturing.
How much is a craftsman scroll saw worth and what year is it from the item number is 103.23151?
How much is it worth? I just bought one for $40-. I've seen them range from $15- to $65-, depending on the stand (if there is one) and how well it works. Mine came with a beautiful homemade stand and extra blades. It runs like a champ!
As far as I can tell, they were made from 1944 or so, when King-Selly bought the Companion Co. that had been making a similar product, to no later than 1962, when Emerson bought King-Selly. My saw has a Craftsman decal below the blade in front that also has the King-Selly name on it. The manual for mine is dated Feb 1951.
Can medical oxygen be used for welding?
It could, though medical-grade oxygen is significantly more expensive than welding-grade oxygen so I'm not sure why you would want to do this.
Are emissions from welding dangerous?
Emissions from welding can be heat, light, sparks, slag, and smoke. Each one can be hazardous. Work clothes, leather gloves, and boots can help protect you from heat, light, sparks, and slag. A welding helmet with the correct shade lens will protect your face and eyes from heat, light, sparks and some of the smoke. A means to remove the smoke is very important. Inhaling it can cause long term lung problems. The light can be especially dangerous to your eyes and anyone that is exposed to it. It can blind you.
How is the liquid weld metal proctected when welding?
Partially by the smoke that is produced. This helps to keep the surrounding air away from the puddle. Mostly by the slag that covers the weld almost immediately as the arc moves on.
How do you weld spider gears in a lawn mower rear end?
In my personal opinion, spiders should never go in any one/thing's rear end..
A WPS, Welding Procedure Specification, is a document that is created to provide detailed instructions about a standardized process for a given type of weld. All known variables and conditionsÊmust be included.
Why is it important to ensure the soldering iron tip is clean and pre-tinned with solder?
to get the maximum heat at the tip surface
