How many kilowatt's are in a wind turbine?

The Enercon E-126 has a rated capacity of 7.58 MW, has an overall height of 198 m (650 ft), a diameter of 126 m (413 ft), and is the world's largest-capacity wind turbine since its introduction in 2007. At least five companies are working on the development of a 10MW turbine.

In the United States, residential wind turbines with outputs of 2-10 kW, typically cost between $12,000 and $55,000 installed ($6 per watt), although there are incentives and rebates available in 19 states that can reduce the purchase price for homeowners by up to 50 percent, to $3 per watt. The US manufacturer "Southwest Windpower," estimates a turbine to pay for itself in energy savings in 5 to 10 years.

The American Wind Energy Association has released several studies on the small wind turbine market in the U.S. and abroad, showing that the U.S. continues to dominate the Small Wind industry. According to another organization, the World Wind Energy Association, it is difficult to assess the total number or capacity of small-scaled wind turbines, but in China alone, there are roughly 300,000 small-scale wind turbines generating electricity.

The dominant models on the market, especially in the United States, are horizontal-axis wind turbines like those manufactured by UGE

Do it yourself or DIY-wind turbine construction has been made popular by magazines such as OtherPower and Home Power, and websites such as Instructables, and by TV-series as Jericho and The Time Machine.

DIY-made wind turbines are usually smaller (rooftop) turbines of ~ 1 kW or less. These small wind turbines are usually tilt-up or fixed/guyed towers. However, larger (freestanding) and more powerful windtubines are sometimes built as well. In addition, people are also showing interest in DIY-construction of wind turbines with special designs as the Savonius, Panemone, wind turbine to boost power generation. When compared to similar sized commercial wind turbines, these DIY turbines tend to be cheaper.

Through the internet, the community is now able to obtain plans to construct DIY-wind turbines.and there is a growing trend toward building them for domestic requirements. The DIY-wind turbines are now being used both in developed countries and in developing countries, to help power homes, residences and small businesses. At present, organizations as Practical Action have designed DIY wind turbines that can be easily built by communities in developing nations and are supplying concrete documents on how to do so.

How much oil is saved by wind power in USA?

Wind power does not replace oil in most applications. Fuel plants supplement wind turbines in place of the older coal fired plants. Some minor amount of coal is saved through the use of wind though.

Where is wind harvested?

Wind turbines and wind farms harvest wind energy to produce electricity. This is happening in many countries. Scotland is an example.

How do wind turbines ruin your lanscape?

Weather wind turbines ruin a landscape is really a matter of opinion. In most cases I have a personal belief that these structures are majestic and look really cool no matter where they are. Some people though carry a different opinion, saying that they ruin a natural landscape. If you look at pictures online of actual wind turbines though, you can see they look aesthetically pleasing and have a very small environmental footprint.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of using these resources geothermal and Biomass and Hydro power and solar and wind?

the advantages of solar power system, over geothermal, biomass, and hydro, are

a) availability- the sun which is one of the most important success factor in solar is always abundantly available, than in theses other power system.

b) clean and cheap-the externalities of all these mentioned power sources are not clean or cheap, their after effect costs much more than what is paid by the consumers

c) environmental impact- only solar power system is environmental friendly in all the above mentioned sources of power, green gas, damage to agriculture land, ecological imbalances, from all of them can only be imagined.

d)running and maintenance- cost of running and maintenance of solar power system is near zero, while all other for these power system, their running and maintenance cost increases as they get older.

i wish you can get my exposition on power systems compared, it answers this question in detail, with dates, tables and graphs.

Does the wind make you tan quicker?

If it helps to dry you out, still better with plenty of salted then a good soaking in tannin

What are the disadvanteges of wind turbines?

The wind blows at a variety of speeds. The turbines need to produce electricity at a standard voltage. If the blades speed up and slow down as the wind changes speed the voltage will vary. They are hard to get right that way.

They are placed in windy areas which is where birds fly. If they go too fast, they will kill a number of birds and thus be bad for the environment.

The noise from the turbines can be unpleasant.

How useful are wind turbines?

The wind turbines is a machine that converts the kinetic energy in wind into mechanical energy. If the mechanical energy is used directly by machinery, such as a pump or grinding stones, The machine is usually called a windmill. If the energy is then converted to electricity, the machine is called a wind generator, wind turbine, or wind energy converter.

Is fossil fuels energy cheaper than wind energy?

Currently it is MUCH cheaper and far more reliable. Wind power must maintain fossil fuel systems burning, on standby, while they generate their power. Currently wind costs around $0.09 a Kw h to produce while fossil fuels can be as low as $0.025 a KW h. Great strides are being made to increase the output of wind systems and allow them to operate over a wider range of wind speeds. This will bring the cost per watt generation down to competitive levels even without subsidies.

What are wind powered vehicles and what do they need to work?

Well. A wind powered vehicle is a vehicle that is powered by the wind obviously. An example of a wind powered machine would be a sail boat, a kite perhaps, or a hang glider.

Are there places outside of the us that are using wind turbines?

Yes. The island of Hawaii use wind turbines, such as Maui and Oahu .

How did ancient egyptians use wind energy?

Egyptians were some of the first people to use sails to capture the wind's energy.

Does a 1.8 MW wind turbine produce 1.8 MW in a year?

You've misunderstood something in order to even be able to ask that question.

A watt is a measure of power, which is an instantaneous value. A 1.8 MW turbine produces 1.8 MW whenever it's turning at its rated speed.

It sounds like you want to measure energy, which is power multiplied by time. If your power units are watts and your time units are seconds, then you get energy in joules (there are roughly 31.5 million seconds in a year, so if the turbine is at full speed the whole time, you get about 56.8 terajoules of energy).

Why isn't wind energy used to provide electricity in most parts of the northeastern US?

Wind energy isn't used in the northeastern part of the U.S. because the northeast is very populous with many high rises which is not conductive to wind energy.(the installation of windmills needs an area that is open that will not implede the wind.)

What kinds of materials would make good wind turbine blades?

Ideally, they should be constructed of light weight materials like reinforced aluminum

How big of a wind turbine will you need to power a home?

a 50 kw or even less can do it for your home for the hole year and more to share and also you can sale or qualified for your taxes due to the program government

What can wind energy power in a house?

Wind energy, when coverted to electrical energy, can power just about anything in a house- HOWEVER- many things may need MORE electrical power than you can produce. Those things may include a heat pump, electric heat, electric water heaters, electric clothes dryers.

How much wind energy is used around the world?

As of 2020, wind energy accounted for about 7.3% of global electricity production. The capacity of installed wind power worldwide is approximately 744 gigawatts. Many countries have been investing in expanding their wind energy capacity to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and lower carbon emissions.

Where in the US would you not want to build a wind turbine because of the lack of wind?

Areas that typically have low wind speeds and are not ideal for building wind turbines in the US include parts of the Southeast, such as Florida and parts of the Midwest like Kansas. These regions have consistently lower wind resources compared to areas like the Great Plains or Rocky Mountains that are more suitable for wind power generation.

How does solar windmill create energy?

Solar windmills, also known as wind turbines, generate electricity by using the kinetic energy of the wind to rotate the blades. As the blades turn, they spin a generator that produces electrical current. This current is then converted into usable electricity for homes, businesses, and communities.

What is the fuel source of wind?

The wind is caused by a combination of the Earth's rotation and the heat of the sun causing convection currents in the atmosphere.
