Hopefully, this is a question about an animal and I will assume a dog. Depending on type of worm (tape, hook, round, heart, etc) you can usually go to your local pet store and buy a dewormer for the appropriate type of worm. Tapeworms come out as flat pieces of rice in the poo. Some others appear more rounded and worm like. Heart worms can only be treated by a vet. Petstores will not usually be allowed to carry this drug. Generally after dosing for the worms (other than heart, don't know much about them) they will be removed from the body via poo or vomit.
