Airsoft guns can range form any where from 100 to 600 feet per second or FPS. The lower end of the spectrum about 100 to 250, they pierce anything more than paper, and hardly hurt at all which will not make a mark through a shirt or pants. The mid range fps is from about 250 to 400. The upper mid range such a 375 FPS to 400 will hurt quite a bit if your not wearing a thick sweat shirt, but the lower end won't be as painful. It can go through any thing from paper to a pop can. No for the high end 400 to 600. These things, if close range or if your not wearing a lot of protection will hurt like a bee sting but the pain wont last as long. The upper end of this powerful spectrum is likely to draw blood a close range if only wearing a T shirt or if it hits bare skin. But keep in mind that most sniper rifles are about 450 to 550. If your friend claims to have a gun over or at 600 FPS, he ether has a BB gun, or he's lying, or he's just an idiot who knows nothing about airsoft. Hope this will help.
