To reset a Rover DVR to factory default, locate the reset button on the device, usually found on the back or bottom panel. Use a paperclip or a similar tool to press and hold the reset button for about 10-15 seconds until the device powers off and then back on. After the reboot, the DVR should be restored to its original factory settings. Be sure to back up any important recordings before performing the reset, as this process will erase all data.

At most DVR default settings, the recordings are generally better than videotape. However, higher digital video and audio quality require more memory, which decreases the amount of space on your DVR hard drive.
It's in the user menu that you can access with your remote. It's one of the options, once you select the right menu heading. Haven't had Direct for several years, but I remember them having it back then and my current Dish unit has it available also.
