I would do some on-line research to see if they are or claim to be located in a specific city or state. I would then contact the Better Business Bureau in that city or state. They should be able to give you some information on complaints that the company may have had against them, and the reasons for those complaints. This will give you a good idea about whether or not the company is legitimate. Keep in mind that people love to complain, and a few complaints against any company that have been amicably resolved would not indicate that you must stay away. On the other hand, if the BBB has never heard of the company, I would begin to seriously doubt that they exist.
