Yes, there was a game called "The Mystery of the Hotel Victoria" for the apple II. It was a math-based problem solving game (and almost an early version of an RPG). The graphics (as far as I can remember) were black and white, where the objects were just drawn in by outlines. It is very difficult to find information online about this game (even though it was a great game).
