Like SCP, SFTP also piggybacks on SSH and utilizes tcp port 22 as its standard port.
A well-known port is a fixed port number ranging from 0 to 1023, assigned by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) for specific services and protocols, such as HTTP (port 80) and FTP (port 21). In contrast, an ephemeral port is a temporary port number assigned dynamically by the operating system for short-lived communication sessions, typically ranging from 49152 to 65535. Well-known ports facilitate standardized communication, while ephemeral ports enable client applications to establish connections without requiring pre-defined port numbers.
TCP port numbers, as well as UDP port numbers, are 2-byte numbers, therefore, the range is from 0 to 65535.
The well-known or reserved ports are ports 0 - 1023.

Well Known Ports (Numbers 0 to 1023) - These numbers are reserved for services and applications. They are commonly used for applications such as HTTP (web server) POP3/SMTP (e-mail server) and Telnet. By defining these well-known ports for server applications, client applications can be programmed to request a connection to that specific port and its associated service.
There are many well known ports around the world. Some of these include Port of Benoa, Port of Busan, and Cozumel.
Marseille is the best-known, and busiest, French port on the Mediterranean.
