Far off the coast of San Francisco, the Farallon Islands are a group of rugged islands located about 27 miles west of the city. They are part of the Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary and are known for their diverse wildlife, including seabirds, elephant seals, and sea lions. The islands also have a rich history, having been used as a lighthouse site and for various scientific research initiatives. Access to the islands is restricted to protect their natural habitat.

Great white sharks are often found off the coast of Australia and also the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California. They typically feed (I believe during the Fall/Winter season) off the Farallon Islands which are off the coast of San Francisco.

The only remaining piece of the Farallon Plate is called the Juan de Fuca Plate, located off the west coast of North America. It is subducting beneath the North American Plate, causing seismic activity in the region.

Santa Catalina Island. There are a number of islands out there, from about 20 miles to nearly 40 miles, but many of them are nature preserves, and San Clemente Island is a US Navy bombing range. The only island that has a song about it is Santa Catalina Island.
