MGM Studios, or Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, was founded in 1924 by Marcus Loew, who was the primary founder. The studio was formed through the merger of three companies: Goldwyn Pictures, founded by Samuel Goldwyn; Metro Pictures, co-founded by Louis B. Mayer; and the Loew's Theatres chain, owned by Marcus Loew. Louis B. Mayer became the studio's first head, effectively shaping its direction and success in the early years.
