Depending on the type of telephone (cellular or land line) and the service used, there could be a short delay of up to 1 second, or there could be hardly any delay at all. The time it takes for the sound of your voice to travel from your vocal cords to the eardrum of the person on the other line 3000 miles away is less than 2 seconds! (pretty amazing eh?)
