Have you tried changing the profile to normal or loud? If not, this will fix your issue...
If the profile is set as it should, then the issue is hardware. First, let's test your speaker. Make a phone call where you will get voice mail. As you get the voice mail, listen to it with the phone next to your ear, if you can hear it, toggle to go to "speakerphone"; chances are, when you toggle to "speakerphone" you will not hear the voice mail. Toggle speakerphone on and off a few times to make sure. If you can not hear the announcement over the speakerphone setting (but you can hear it over the "regular" speaker, next to your ear) then the speaker is the issue.
Speakers rarely go bad. More than likely, a wire is loose or became loose when you removed and re-inserted your battery. Believe it or not, I had the same issue and fixed it. I called my bberry from a landline and banged its back with my hand, after a couple of careful bangs, the speaker came on and its been working ever since. I'm not saying this is always going to work, I'm just telling you what worked for me. Good luck bberry.
