You have to have a router to connect more than 1 item with Comcast Internet unless you also got the wireless router from Comcast. You can either go out and purchase a router either wireless, both, or Ethernet. I purchased a wireless router and then decided I liked the wired system better and purchased an Ethernet cable to hook up the PlayStation 3 because I saw that the router also had 4 Ethernet plugs in back. So you still need to purchase a router even though you have Internet access with Comcast.

First you must have an internet service provider and it then depends on what equipment they have provided. An ethernet cable will connect to a modem or a router and go to the device for a wired connection. I used a Cat 6 ethernet cable and a router to split the signal from my first cable modem to a router and then from my PS3 and PC connected 2 more ethernet cables to the back of the router. Later Comcast sent a gateway modem and that already had WiFi and more than one spot to plug in the ethernet cables and I put my router away

You do not hook up the PS3 to your computer, but to the modem for the Comcast Internet Service. If you do not want to purchase a router Comcast will rent you one. The cable that leads to your computer from the modem is an Ethernet cable. You can connect a PS3 wireless to the internet if you have a wireless connection or have purchased a wireless router. The connection can also be wired with an ethernet cable from the PS3 to either the modem or a router which is then connected to the modem with another ethernet cable and the PC can also be plugged into the router. It is possible to switch the ethernet cables plugged into the modem back and forth for the PC and the PS3 and the router only saves you the trouble of doing this. Ebay has Belkin 50 foot Cat 6 ethernet cables for only $20 including S/H, however shorter lengths of 6, 7, 14, & 25 are also available. They are also stocked in most stores that sell computers and Game consoles.
