I don't see why you can't connect it. It's what happens after you connect it that yo should be wondering.

Give them valid reasons why you deserve to have an iPhone 5. Did you get higher grades this time? Did you win in an oratorical contest or any school contests? Did you always keep your room and stuff clean and in order? Did you do the errands they wanted you to do? If you have valid reasons, then it won't be hard to convince them to get that much awaited iPhone 5.
