Cell phones should be allowed in school, but they should be kept off and in backpacks. It's good to have it in case a emergency happens to you in school and they can get the numbers of your family off your contacts. But texting in class can result in a detention, so keep it off.

Plus, in case of an emergency, you can always use the school phone, as mentioned before. In case of a fire or lockdown, your teachers can take care of calling the necessary people.

The real problem with cell phones in school is school is a place to make friends and to get a good education and not text all day on a phone. School isn't a place were you show off it's were you learn to be perpared for high school and collage. When people show off their phones in school it's like "dude just leave it at home. I mean do you really need it in school?". Some people think that sometimes they can do whatever they want but sometimes that can get them in trouble. They know what's comin if they do. It is shameful to see good potential wasted on a phone
