I dont think so. Some providers only allow the customer to use the provider's modem; others allow the customer to use any DSL modem, as long as it's compatible with the provider's DSL network.

DSL Providers are a Great Way to Get Internet?

When choosing your high speed Internet service, you may have been perplexed by all the options available to you. There are cable providers, satellite providers, DSL providers, and even wireless providers. You may have wondered whether is there any difference between these services. While there are a few differences, and some services may be more practical than others depending upon your situation - DSL providers are a good bet for most customers. Let’s take a closer look at DSL and whether it could be the Internet service you need. DSL Internet service is provided over your regular land line telephone wires. This is one reason that it is such a popular and widespread service: nearly everyone’s home is already properly wired and equipped to be able to receive DSL service. As long as your home is wired for telephone service, you should be all set. However, DSL service is a bit different than dial-up Internet service, which is also provided through your telephone wires. While dial-up Internet is typically fairly slow and requires you to dial in every time you need to use it, DSL Internet is one of the fastest Internet solutions today, and it is always connected - so you never need to dial in. In order to use DSL Internet, you will need a special modem. This will turn the signal that comes through your phone wires into a signal that your computer can understand. Often, the DSL providers will provide this modem for you, but they may charge a nominal rental fee, like $5 per month. You can usually avoid this rental fee by purchasing your own modem. If you buy a wireless router, you can also broadcast your DSL Internet signal all over your home. This is great if you have many family members or roommates who you will be sharing your Internet connection with. Most modern computing devices come with a WiFi receiver built into them, so it is a piece of cake to connect to the Internet with them once you have the system in place. Overall, DSL is a great solution for high speed Internet. Just make sure to shop around so that you can get the best deal.
