They don't have central heating! Of course they don't have cell phones. Actually, some Amish will carry cell phones strictly for the purpose of doing business. Most bishops would require that the phone be a necessity to their trade. For example, an Amish who is self employed as a general contractor would need a cell phone if he is to effectively communicate with customers who are not Amish. It would, however, never be permitted to be used as a personal convenience.

The Amish religious beliefs basically forbid ownership of any type of device that did not exist in the 1840s.
