You have the guts out of the control correct? Re clean the parts, flux and heat the body of the control.
The Symmons Temptrol valve has several parts none of which are really cleanable. If your valve is clogged with debris you may take them out turn on the water and flush debris out but parts are generally replaced. The parts involved would be the spindle and the diverter/volume control.

Sure you can. But if yo were sweating a lot during the game you might still be sweating a little after you've finished the shower, which'd make it all a bit silly. Better to wait until your temperature have settled a bit and the sweating stopped before getting clean.
