If your name is on the lease or deed to the house or apartment where your belonging are, she cannot keep you out without a restraining order. It is your place just as much as it is hers. If she has moved and it is in her name, taking her to court is your only option. If the police will not force her to open the door, ask that a supervisor be called out. Legally you have a right to claim your property. A landlord can not hold your property even if you owe him rent so how can your wife hold it in your own house?

When a girl asks her ex boyfriend about getting her stuff back why would he reply with 'I've been looking for your stuff do you have a job' why did he change the topic so fast?

He may feel you owe him some money and is keeping your belongings until you get a job and pay him back. However, the law is on your side and even if you lived with him and owed him money without your signed signature on a document he legally still has to give your belongings back. If he refuses then either take a male family member with you to collect your belongings or report it to the police and they may be able to escort you to where ex boyfriend is living so you can retrieve your belongings. Any gifts he has given you are yours and any gifts you gave him are his.

What can you do if your boyfriend changes the locks on you?

If your boyfriend has changed the locks on you and you were living together and your clothing or anything else you own is still inside then you can either get the police to escort you to your boyfriends and retrieve your belongings or, get a male member of the family to escort you (preferably someone older.) It is illegal for your boyfriend not to give you anything that is yours. If you weren't living together and he has changed the locks that is a clear sign that you are bothering him and he no longer wants you inside the premises.

If a roommate who is the only one on the lease evicts the other but refuses to allow that roommate to get his belongings what legal recourse does the evicted person have?

Check with the local police. If you have belongings of value in the place, hopefully you will have receipts with your credit card number on them there, too? And the matching credit card will have your name on it. Your local police should be able to tell you the first step.

How long can an employer hold your personal belongings after he fires you?

Your employer cannot hold your personal belongings if they are in fact your belongings. If your employer refuses to return property you can prove is yours, you should contact a lawyer about a lawsuit and/or may even be able to file criminal conversion charges with your local police.

Can you request for police officer to escort you to get your belongings from an old employer?

Yes, although whether the local police will provide an escort is determined by their department's policy. In most cases, an employee leaves the employer's premises with all their belongings when the employment is terminated. You might be best off to just call the employer, explain you want your stuff back, and see if you can set a time to come by and pick it up. The police will not mediate a dispute as to what property is yours and which is the employer's. If you and the employer can't come to terms on that, your best recourse is probably small claims court.

I have not been served legal papers so can my husband keep me from getting my belongings out of the house?

If you have no current restraining orders in effect and your current residence (i.e. the one printed on your drivers license, not where you are currently staying) is listed as being the address at which your belongings are located, then yes. However!!Most law enforcement officials will recommend that you request a police officer to be present while you remove your belongings. This is recommended for many reasons. First and foremost is your safety. Second is that you have an official third party present should anything happen that needs to be documented.Contact the police department in the town or city that serves the residence where your belongings are located. Explain that you wish to have a police officer present while you remove your possessions. If you arrive at the residence BEFOREthe police, do not exit your vehicle or attempt to approachthe residence. Wait for the police to escort you onto the property. Some police departments will take it so far as to have you meet them at a specified location (not the residence) and will escort you from there.By using a police officer you will now have documented proof (police dispatch reports) that you had no malicious intentions in visiting the residence. The sole purpose of your visit was to remove your belongings. This goes a long way in court should you have to appear for divorce proceedings.
