The short answer is, it depends. Many laptops come with a network port in the back or on the side that can be used to connect to a wired network. The port looks like a telephone jack except it has 8 pins instead of 4. If your laptop doesn't have a port, you can buy a network card that plugs into one of the card slots in the side.
