How does 'Priceline' work?

Priceline is a travel reservation website and features a service called Name Your Owen Price. You can book hotels, car rentals, and flights using this service. You specify what you're looking for and name a price you're willing to pay. This is called 'making a bid'. Then Priceline responds with an answer. If your bid was accepted, your credit card is charged and you now have a reservation.

For example, suppose you were looking for a hotel in Las Vegas. Using Priceline's Name Your Own Price, you would specify your travel dates and tell Priceline the general area and class of hotel you are looking for, as well as the price you're willing to spend. Only when your bid is accepted do you find out the name of the hotel you've won.
