They are 99.9 percent efficient, which is why they don't need a vent.
A 15,000 BTU Unit (that has 3 plates) uses less than a dollar an hour worth of propane and probably something on the the order of 70 cents worth of natural gas per hour. You do have to select which gas source you intend to use before purchase.
But you don't normally run the heater at full output. Once a room is heated you set the heater on low and then it uses just pennies per hour worth of fuel.
