A color TV picture is created by combining three primary colors: red, green, and blue (RGB). Each pixel on the screen consists of tiny sub-pixels that emit light in these three colors, which blend together to produce a wide spectrum of colors. The television receives a signal that dictates the intensity of each color for every pixel, allowing for the display of images and videos. This process uses either cathode ray tube (CRT) technology in older TVs or liquid crystal display (LCD) and light-emitting diode (LED) technologies in modern screens.

If the Sky receiver is connected to the television using a multi-pin connector such as a SCART connector, it sounds like the red signal is missing. The receiver will normally be set up to send separate red, green and blue signals to the television and if one of the signals is missing, a distorted colour will be seen. Check that the connectors are properly inserted and try changing the cable. If neither of those work, it's time for more investigation.
A trick I have used for years is if the tv has a SHARPNESS setting, (in the picture or video menu) turn that control all the way UP. This will sharpen the vertical edges of the picture.
