You're probably refering to LED-backlit tv's. These tv's have back lights that are made up of either an "edge-lit" design (Samsung luxia 6,7,8 series) a "full array" design (sharp LE700 series) or a "full array w/local dimming" design (LG LH90 series, samsung 8500, SONY XBR8). The edge-lit design are exactly what they sound like, led's arranged around the perimeter of the screen with a light diffuser sheet to carry the light towards the center. These designs have major flaws when it comes PQ but the design allows for incredibly thin panels. The full array led back light panels operate exactly like ccfl lcd's that we've had for some time now, but power consumption is greatly reduced and there is no Mercury contained in the light source. The full-array back lights with local dimming sets are leaps ahead of even the best LCD's that use ccfl. They can dim and shut off sections of their back light depending on what is being shown on their screen at the time. For example; you're watching a sunset beach scene with a darkened cave systems off to the left, the back light behind the darkened cave system will shut off while the rest of the screen stays lit to give you incredible inky blacks and vivid colors that were just not possible on the last generation of LCD's.
The half-life(time till you are receiving half of the output of the bulb rated) of these back lights is probably around twice that of a standard ccfl back light, around 100,000-120,000 hours. You will probably end up with a new set WELL before your back light fails on these!

LED TV's have LED back-lighting. LED TV's usually last longer than LCD TV's. Bth are reliable and widely used.
It all depends on many factors. The brand name, how much you use it, etc. In general, they don't break so easily. However, they don't last as long as regular TVs. They last about 3-5 years.
I don't know about LED TV but i know LED (Light Emitting Diodes) was invented in 1962 so most likely not too long after that.
LED's are usually also LCD's. LED LCD's are usually better as you do not have to worry about the light bulb will not burn out because led's last longer. I would suggest LED LCD's as the lightbulb not burning out will save you some money.
they dont last
LCD televisions cheaper and more efficient than LED televisions because they are primarly easier to make and get the parts for. But they also last longer than led making them of higher quality.
You can get Samsung led 32 inch TVs at amazon.com. Sears, Target and BestBuy have them also. Last time I bought something at BestBuy I was not very happy with their service.
Depends. LCD is much cheaper initially but LED uses a lot less electricity. If you can afford the LED, that would be the way to go in the long run.
LED, this is because a light emitting diode(LED) is a form of light that uses electricity and converts it into electromagnetic radiation -LEDs are therefore long lasting tech.
I Think it will last for a long time, because there are lots of designers out there. I love project runway!
According to reviews, the Visio 26 LED TV is a good TV. I think it would be perfect for your son, as long as you are not looking for a super nice TV. These TVs are affordable and have good reviews.
Sony tv accessories are definnetly long lasting household items. They provide a lot of great performances. They can last for as long as you want them to last if you take really good care of them.
