You gotta have the motivation and the gonads in you, for starters. You MUST have some money saved to be able to jump to a major city such as Los Angeles, New York, Orlando... and set yourself up comfortably.
Having an agent would be nice and knowing which genre of famous-ness you're wanting to get into would be keen as well. Music, acting (movie or Broadway), broadcast journalism, writing, etc.
