Very few. How do you think people got along without a cell phone for thousands of years and still lived? You go get help if you need it. I haven't seen one child who has been abducted or killed phone in a location to help police or their parents find them. That would be an emergency. Mainly, kids use them like toys and want to use them in times/places where they aren't required.
if there is an emergency at school or somewhere else kids can call or text you
yes! for emergency and if someone is trying to kill your kids! maybe you can check out spyro the dragon your kids will love him!!!!!!!
Several cell phone providers has cell phones specifically designed for kids and teens so first check with your current provider. For young children a cellphone such as the LG Migo VX1000 would be great because you program in phone numbers like your home phone and emergency numbers.
A fifth grade is too young for a cell phone if the kind of cell phone that he will be using is a smartphone. The sophisticated features of a smartphone are too much for kids. What is more suitable for them is a simple cell phone with basic features and an emergency response system that can work to help secure their safety. See related links for more information.
a lot! no there is about 10099 kids that have a cell phone
You may give an older child a cell phone for emergency situations. You may also want to give emergency contact information to you child's teachers. Do not rely on landlines in such situations, as a tornado will often take down phone and power lines.
It depends on the kind of cell phone that a kid is using and how he is being guided on his cell phone use. Kids are naturally explorative so it is more ideal for them to get a simple cell phone with basic functions. They don't need a cell phone with advanced features yet as they are not responsible enough to use them properly and with care. As well, it is important for parents to guide their kids on their cell phone use to protect from misusing the device.
kids should have a cell phone in the ages 9 through 12.
You've answered your own question, but it would be naive to imagine a child is going to confine his/her use to emergencies unless it's possible to have the 'phone call-barred to all but emergency or home/school numbers.

a cell phone
That cell phone is private property and they have to return it. They can prohibit anyone from having a cell phone during school hours. And if there really was an emergency I'm sure the Principle and other teachers would help the child to a phone. Just like they did before cell phones existed. It's still very rare it's an actual emergency and the parents can always call the school. Most teachers don't allow it being switched on during class anyway. You might think that. But what if a child is walking home and someone attacks him/her and there cell phone was still in school lock up. Kids should be alowd to have phones on them but on silent, and therfore instead of taking the phone give them a lunch detention. Seriously..
