There are about 800 functioning satellites in orbit around the Earth, plus another 5600 that have stopped operating. If you add in parts of rockets, pieces of shattered satellites like the one the Chinese blew up a few months ago, junk accidentally dropped by astronauts, etc etc, the total in orbit around the Earth is over 30,000. NASA maintains a list of them with orbital parameters, launch dates, nationality, and, where appropriate, broadcast frequencies, under the heading Satellite Situation Report.
