Assuming your memory has been formatted to approx. 1.8G free space remaining, and also assuming your music is set to a fairly high Kbps rating for quality (96), and ALSO assuming an average song is 3:36 we can calculate:

I put just over 2400 songs of varying length and compression onto a 16 Gb memory, so a 2Gb USB might hold 600 of my songs.

It really depends him many mb's a song is... On my 4 gb I've stored about 100 so I'd say you could store about 50... But really you'll just have to put songs on a see how many until it fills up...

When I dragged the songs on from iTunes only five songs came up even when i removed them and reload the songs they were the same ones from the start so I'm still pickled! :(
