Television was in it's early stage in the 1940s. In America, they first became available in 1939. In 1939, RCA offered a single model at $600 ($7000 - $8000 at today's prices). It was reduced to $395 in 1940. New models were introduced in 1940 at around $200. In 1943, commercial television production was stopped until 1946.

In the UK, they had been available from 1929 but at the outbreak of the Second World War, television was suspended in 1939 until the late 1940s. Prices were similarly expensive in the UK.
