the 1st "phone" was invented in 1876 by Alexander Graham Bell and Watson. I believe it still exists in either the Smithsonian, Edison museum or the AT&T collection.

in the 1870's, Alexander graham bell designed a device that could transmit speech electrically (the telephone). that would be it!
