A wi-fi connection is a way to connect to a network. A network can have an internet connection, but that isn't a requirement. So i can use wi-fi to connect to the other computers on my network even if I haven't paid for an internet connection. An internet connection is usually done through a phone or cable company, and you can attach a wireless router so that you can use that internet conneciton through wi-fi in your home. Most wi-fi connections at retail stores advertise wi-fi but they really mean wi-fi with an internet connection.
