The screen size remains the same, the quality of the display however couldn't be more different.

Apple has developed something they call the Retina Display for the iPhone 4. Basically they took the old display and made the pixels far smaller. This enabled them to fit four times the pixels on the display which makes the picture quality far superior to the older 3GS.

In other words the iPhone 4 has same sized screen as its predecessor but its display boasts 4 times the picture quality.

There are a lot of differences between the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 3GS -- more than just the new case style.

The iPhone 4 will only run iOS 4, currently Apple's latest iPhone operating system. The 4 takes advantage of all of the features of the new OS. The iPhone 3GS can also run the older OS version 3.

The iPhone 4 has twice the RAM -- 512MB of onboard RAM compared to 256MB on the 3GS. This helps apps that use a lot of memory run more stable and with fewer crashes. The iPhone 4 has a much faster CPU than the 3GS -- almost twice as fast.

The iPhone 4 has a better camera. The camera on the 4 is a 5 megapixel camera. The 3GS has a 3.2MPX camera. The iPhone 4 camera is about 35% more light sensitive than the 3GS. The 4 has a built-in LED flash and a front-facing camera that the 3GS does not have. Because of the front-facing camera, you can make video calls on FaceTime from the iPhone 4.

In addition to the accelerometer that all iPhones have to check which way the iPhone is pointed, and the compass that the iPhone 3G and 3GS have, the iPhone 4 now has a built-in gyroscope, which allows developers to create apps that take advantage of much more precise directional information.

The iPhone 4 has a redesigned antenna, which depending on which source you believe, gets better reception than the 3GS or creates more dropped calls than the 3GS. I don't think the antenna issue is as serious as it was made out to be. I personally think the reception on an iPhone 4 is just fine.

If you mean the difference it's quit a lot The iPhone 4 includes a retina screen, a new design and style, it shoots HD videos and pictures and it has flash. It is almost the same as the iPhone 3GS because you can shoot video and edit it and you can still send video messages. Oh and the iPhone 4 has facetalk (one camera in the back and one i the front) as the 3GS only has one in the back.

No. They are the same size and fit perfectly in each others' cases. The only concern is the iPhone 4 on AT&T has a slightly lower vibration switch, but you should still be able to use it on almost all cases.
