A tube-type color television has 3 colored light guns behind the screen: red, green and blue. Strong magnets sweep the single beams back and forth across your screen in horizontal rows from top to bottom in a lawn mowing pattern. The pattern repeats 60 times every second to create the illusion of a solid moving picture. The three colors mix to create any color on one tiny spot called a pixel. These pixels are arranged to create a picture when viewed from a distance.
Hovannes Adamian invented the tricolor principle of the color television.
