To be honest, I believe not. I have mine on all school day, and it distracts me a lot in lessons. A lot of people text each other when they get bored in class. However, phones can be very useful for getting help or in contact with someone in an emergency situaton. Some parents want their children to have mobile phones because they walk home and it reassures them that their kids are safe.
