Shut the water off. flush the tank and hold the lever down so as much water runs out as possible. Either use a sponge or towels to get the rest of the water out of the tank or have a pan or bucket ready to put under the hole in the tank to catch the water when you take out the old fill valve. Tale the supply line loose. Take the nut loose on the bottom of the tank that holds the fill valve in. Lift out the old valve. Install the new valve making sure you put the rubber washer on it first with the taper facing down into the hole. Secure the valve with the nut making sure it is sealed. Use pliers but don't break the nut. Reattach the supply line. There is a small hose that attaches to the top of the valve and runs to the overflow tube in the middle of the tank. Make sure this is in place. Turn the water on and set the water level. There should be instruction on the new valve.
