intranet
The term for an intranet that has been configured to allow limited access by outside users is an "extranet." An extranet extends certain functionalities of the intranet to external stakeholders, such as partners, suppliers, or customers, while still maintaining security and privacy. This setup facilitates collaboration and information sharing with selected external users.
An intranet is a private network with limited access. It could be an internal network within a company, or possibly accessible by authorised customers, but not to the general public. The internet is an open international network that is available to everyone. An intranet may often have access to the internet via a gateway, but external access to the intranet is limited or unavailable.
It is possible for an intranet to be working and for you to have access to it, while not having access to the internet. Your intranet is your own private network. It can be part of the internet by linking to other networks. Sometimes your intranet can be working, but there is a problem with your gateway to the internet and you cannot get access to the internet.

The "word-wide-web" by definition is world wide. An "intranet" by definition is not world wide and closed off from the world. As the two are diametrically opposed you can not apply the world-wide-web in an intranet. However the standards and tools used to deliver the world-wide-web can be used in an intranet.
