This is one of those questions people find a bit tricky to answer because they don't really know what's expected. The best approach is to say something along the lines of 'I would hope that provided my performance has been good that I would have progressed to a bigger role in the company' That is not unrealistic. A bigger role may be a promotion but could be a bigger job at the same level. What you shouldn't do is give an answer that shows no ambition or unrealistic ambition.
