What are the advantages of touchscreen?

Touchscreens are becoming widely popular in phones and computers. They have many advantages such as playing games that are meant for touchscreens, touching something is quicker than guiding a mouse to it and it can reduce the size of a device.

The advantages of a touchscreen is that you can have a bigger screen because the room used by the dial-keys can be used for the screen. Nor do you need a slide-in/out dialling pad.

I loved the first touchscreen phones, because it had huge dial-pad. But that was until I reached a Call Center and had to use the pad again. If the touchscreen did not turn off when I called, the phone went Beep/peep and boop while I spoke.

But now I can quickly move to the field I want to enter, type my search, and mark the contact on the list that I want to call much quicker and more intuitive. But, the new has a slide-out keyboard with - if the dialpad used to be small - this are not tiny, rather pico and on the way to nano. Those with a keypad on the screen are worse. Its like playing an old version of "starhips" - try to hit a dot on the screen, but I miss the score, and high-score that you got every time you managed to hit one.

So, if you write a paper, there are the pros and the cons, and then there are the in-between like those that come with an additional keyboard - and other ways to manage input. My best is one where I could "write" the digits with the stylus - full screen gestures. This has a 2" screen the the biggest problem was that I lost it in my pocket...

Then: where is the touchscreen better, and can it be used in industrial applications?

Which way do you believe use input will take, what will the next thing be? Can voice input be used on mobile phones, and these used in wrist-watches instead? This is available, but give reasons for this technology not taking off. What is marketing's role in what we use? How does this make us move in "leaps" - generate support for one alternative. - Doesn't require other devices for operation to could become lost rendering the device unusable.

- Has stronger screen durability specifically designed for touch.

Disadvantages are:

- Less diversity in operation (like the difference between a car automatic and a manual stick shift, the manual stick [in relation to a 'non-touch' screen] allows you more control and lets you do more things.

- While more user friendly, it is less-user friendly when it comes to gaming.

- Touch display screen requires impression with heat-sig. so just touching with your fingernail is not enough. Recognition can be a problem in some instances.

- If operated unrealistically or too violently (applying to much force when touching the screen), the screen can become damaged and unusable.
