This is one of my all time favorite phrases that Mom used to say whenever either of her two loving sons was giving her a hard time about anything. It seems to have been her answer when she was frustrated by our bellyaching about some subject. I believe it must have been derived from some reference to the bag used by soldiers sleeping in barracks during the World War II era, but I'm not certain. Unfortunately, most of those who would remember may be beyond the ability to remember...

What would happen if you blew air into a bag?

If you blow air into a bag, the air fills the bag, causing it to expand. This increase in volume occurs because the air molecules inside the bag move apart and create pressure against the bag's walls. If the bag is sealed and you continue to blow air into it, the pressure will increase until the bag may burst if it exceeds its elastic limit. Conversely, if the bag is porous or has a hole, the air will escape, and the bag won't fully inflate.
