TEOTWAWKI ! There is a certain type of person who needs to believe that the world is coming to an end, SOON. They always pick a date a little way off, and get other people all worked up and scared about it, and it NEVER happens. A thousand years ago, there was mass hysteria about Jesus returning at the Millennium, in AD1000. It didn't happen. There were dozens of apocalyptic cults between then and the year 2000, and the world didn't end for any of them, either. When Y2K came around, it was the rerun of the Millennium cults, AND the end of all computer time, and that ALSO didn't happen. About 5 years ago, some doomsayers seized on the "end of the Mayan calendar" in 2012. (In 1952, Robert Heinlein set one of his TEOTWAWKI (The End Of The World As We Know It) stories in 2012, also.) Now people are getting all spun up about THIS disaster-wannabe. It won't happen this time, either.
