Except for the fact that the M4 still has problems cycling reduced loads. You have to brace yourself to make sure that a reduced load cycles properly. In a combat situation that is not always available. The Remington 870, while slower to cycle because it's a pump shotgun will cycle everytime no matter what load you are using. Also not to mention the nearly $1000 difference in price.

While the Benelli M4 is amazing, it is not without its drawbacks. Until broken in, the action is too stiff to be used with less than lethal and light loads (I mean reallylight--stuff you really shouldn't be using for defense anyway). After shooting a couple hundred rounds through my Benelli, it will now happily spray 20 year old #7 birdshot without a hiccup.

But since the question is which is thebest. I agree with the above response, the Benelli M4 is the finest tactical shotgun ever devised. If moneyis an object, however, a ghost ring sighted Remington 870 is a fine choice that will serve you well.
