There are a number of variants
Cynosura was a title for the whole constellation of Ursa Minor in Greek classical times, but now refers to the "dog's tail" - Polaris. (Which if you observe Ursa Minor, the tail does seem to be rather long for a bear)
Kunosouris or Kunosoura from from Greek kuon, dog, and oura, tail
Arcas where the constellation represented the son of the Zeus, not a dog or bear.
Ursa Minor was also named the Dragon's wing, and was considered a part of Draco.
Other somewhat dubious ones are:
Aukosoura - Tail, or train of light)
Arktos which was also represented by Ursa Major.
Ursa Minor, also called the Little Dipper.
The name, Calista, comes from a Greek origin. Calista was a mythological creature that turned into a female bear and now stands for the constellation. This constellation is called the great bear constellation.
That's the name of a constellation. Also called Ursa Minor.
The primary star in a constellation is called the "Alpha" star - it's almost always the brightest one in the constellation. "Beta" is the second brightest, and it follows the Greek Alphabet as the stars get dimmer... Polaris is the North Star located in the constellation Ursa Minor - the Little Bear.
The name of the big bear constellation in the Odyssey is Callisto. Hera, Zeus's wife, turned her into a brown bear. Callisto or the brown bear would always visit her son, Arcas. Arcas didn't know that the brown bear was his mother. He shoot his mother and Zeus had to punish him. He turned him into a cub and he killed him. That's how we got the Big Bear and Little Bear constellation in the sky today, based on mythology.
The Big Dipper is not a smaller constellation. The Big Dipper is a part of an even larger constellation. The Big Dipper is a part of the Constellation, Ursula Major or Big Bear. It is only part of the Bear. Likewise, the little dipper is part of a larger constellation, Ursula Minor or Little Bear.
Polaris is in the constellation Ursa Minor (the Little Bear).
The constellation is Ursa Minor (the Little Bear).
Ursa Minor, also known as the "smaller bear," originated in ancient Greek mythology. The brightest star in the constellation is Polaris, also known as the North Star.
Polaris (A.K.A. the North Star) is the star that is located in the tail of the Little Bear constellation. The Constellation is also known as Ursa Minor or more colloquially known as the Little Dipper.
Ursa Minor: the Little Bear.
the little dipper is a pot, but it is also a part of another constellation of a bear called ursa major.
