What number mbps do you need to download videos?

It depends on the quality of the video you are trying to watch. Higher quality = longer load times and more demand on your connection. I find you need about 250 kbps of download speed on a computer not running too much to watch the worst quality YouTube videos 240p without having to buffer too much.

That depends how large files you're going to download.

Obviously the with a fast connection you'll be able to download videos a lot faster.

Example:

With an 10 mbps download connection you'll be able to download with approximately 1-1.5 MB/s.

This means that (assuming you're downloading at 1 MB/s) you'll be able to download 1 MB per second. This means you'll be able to download a DVD rip of an video (which is usually at about 700MB) at around 700 seconds which is about 11.5 minutes.

If you then instead had lets say an 50 mbps download connection, you'd be able to download at approximately 5-6 MB/s.

With the same example as before:

File of 700 MB, and lets say a download speed of 5 MB/s.

This file will be downloaded at approximately 700/5= 140 seconds, or 2.3 minutes.

So as this example shows, the faster the connections, the fast your download will complete!

Keep in mind though that downloading copyrighted files (including videos) are illegal in most countries.
