What valve?...on the torch? Open it up enough to play a good flame.

If you are soldering on a valve, you need to take out the valve stem from the body unless you want to melt the seats. Opening the valve is not enough.

What type of torch should you use for soldering water heater fittings only?

Most use propane, but you can use acetylene also. Just as long as you don't get it too hot. Propane will not melt copper, but acetylene will.

What is a propane torch?

Typicaly a propane torch is a pair of metal tubes with a brass or cast-iron head holding a copper tip and a base containing a levered valve with mixing cone. The base or handle, mixes oxygen and propane (adjustable with a pair of valves) to maintain a "neutral flame". The Lever on the handle opens up a larger flow of oxygen to allow the propane-oxygen mix to burn through various materials, usually steel. For a long list of torches for sale (propane and others) look into Eddies welding in TX. 1-800-4ATORCH. That's where I get most of my gear. Or enquire at the Praxair website.

What are the differences between a propane torch and a butane torch, and which one is more suitable for my specific needs?

The main differences between a propane torch and a butane torch are the fuel they use and the temperature they can reach. Propane torches burn hotter than butane torches, making them more suitable for tasks that require higher temperatures, such as soldering or brazing metal. Butane torches are more portable and easier to use for tasks like cooking or small repairs. Choose a propane torch if you need higher temperatures and a butane torch for more portable and versatile use.

What is the difference between electrical and torch soldering?

When soldering a person can use an electric tool or a torch. The torch uses a flame, while an electrical tool has a soldering tip which is heated.

How can I repair a copper pipe?

To repair a copper pipe, you can use a pipe cutter to remove the damaged section, clean the ends of the pipe, and then solder a new piece of copper pipe in place using a propane torch and solder. Make sure to follow proper safety precautions and techniques when soldering to ensure a secure and leak-free repair.

How can I repair a copper water line?

How can I transition from copper to PEX without soldering?

To transition from copper to PEX without soldering, you can use push-to-connect fittings or compression fittings. These fittings allow you to easily connect the PEX tubing to the existing copper pipes without the need for soldering. Simply cut the copper pipe, insert the PEX tubing into the fitting, and secure it in place according to the manufacturer's instructions. This method provides a quick and efficient way to make the transition without the use of a torch or solder.

When you need to use torch?

What is a MAPP gas torch?

Well, darling, a MAPP gas torch is a tool used for welding, brazing, and soldering. It uses MAPP gas as fuel to produce a hot flame for melting metals. Just be careful not to singe your eyebrows - unless you're going for that avant-garde look.
