Usually, these downloaded files are used to run updates or new software, so keeping them is not important. However, if you download a document, music or other kind of file, it is best for you to open it and save it in the appropriate place so you can find it later.

I'm no expert but some of my statements are saved / downloaded as .zo or .do file extensions. I change the .zo or .do to .pdf and that seems to work.
