Area code +1 619 serves San Diego, California, and the suburbs to the south and east. (Small portions of the city of San Diego are in area codes 858, 760, and 442.) Area code 619 also includes San Ysidro, Coronado, El Cajon, Imperial Beach, Jacumba, Pine Valley, Santee, and most of Chula Vista, Lemon Grove, and National City.

Area code 619 was created in 1982 as a split from area code 714, which at the time included Orange County, Riverside, San Bernardino, Palm Springs, and the eastern Sierra Nevada almost all the way to Lake Tahoe. Area code 760 (and later overlay 442) and area code 858 were subsequently split off from 619.
