To change your background colour, and to upload a custom background, go into your channel and there is a bar at the top. If you click the 'themes and colours' bar you can then click 'new theme to create your own background.
If you subscribe, or favorite that channel, it will appear on your YouTube channel. Or, if you edit your channel homepage, you may find a button that says something like 'Other Channels', click on it then type your featured channel in the 'Featured Channel' button.
