Pokemon, at least in my opinion for the following reasons:
-Pokemon has a way wider selection of creatures to choose from without requiring the kind of constant care that scares people like me away from Tomagotchis and Giga-pets.
-Pokemon grow stronger from battles rather than having to be taken to a special school just to raise one of their stats.
-The reality where pokemon are animals and the reality where pokemon are people (Mystery Dungeon) are two separate realities all together rather than the same.
-It won't cost you an arm and a leg to get some medicine if your pokemon comes down with some kind of ailment.
-You can go days, weeks, moths, even years without playing your Pokemon game and not have to worry about coming back one day to your pokemon being nearly dead.
